Photography Services
Two session types. One approach: cinematic, honest, and deeply human.
Every Session Starts
the Same Way
A Roots session is an unposed, directed photo shoot on the Riviera Maya — 30 to 105 minutes depending on the package, your edited gallery delivered in three days, from $165.
Every session — whether it's a family of five or a couple on their first morning in Tulum — is guided by the same philosophy: we don't ask you to be anything. We ask you to do something. The rest takes care of itself.
We move with you. We anticipate the light. We put the camera down when nothing is happening, and raise it exactly when it is.

What a Family Session
Actually Looks Like
The baby laughed at something behind the camera. We never found out what. Both parents looked at him at exactly the same time. That's the photo. It took forty minutes of session to get there — but that's the one.
A family session isn't built around poses. It's built around conditions: the right light, the right timing, enough space for the group to move and forget there's a camera. The coordinated outfits can stay — they help with color consistency across the gallery — but the looking-at-the-camera instruction is one we skip almost entirely.
What We're Actually Doing
The job in a family session isn't to arrange people. It's to create conditions where they forget there's a camera — and then to be ready when something worth capturing happens. That interval, from arrival to forgetting, is what the first twenty minutes are for. We move, we talk, we put the kids in motion. The posed frame comes at the end, briefly, for the one photo that gets printed.
Kids are not a complication in this process. They are the session. A seven-year-old who refuses to stand still generates more good photographs in ninety minutes than a cooperative child who does exactly what you ask. The refusal, the running, the turning around to look at something offscreen — that's the material. We've learned to read which direction a toddler is about to bolt, and to be positioned before they get there.
Timing Is the Biggest Variable
The Caribbean coast goes flat and harsh by 9 AM from April through October. The best light — warm, angled, cinematic without effort — runs from about 6:30 to 8:30 AM on most of the coast, and from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM in the late afternoon. We recommend morning sessions for families with children under six: kids are fresher, the beach has fewer people, and the light doesn't require planning around.
For older children and larger groups, late afternoon sessions offer more flexibility. The light is equally strong, and teenagers tend to photograph better when they haven't been woken at dawn. Timing is the first detail we confirm before booking — before location, before outfits, before anything else.
Group Sizes
We photograph every configuration: mother-daughter sessions of thirty minutes, families of two with a newborn, four-generation groups of twelve. The session structure adapts to the group.
For larger groups, we build in setup time at the start. Getting twelve people looking in roughly the same direction is its own skill, and we do it without making it feel like a military operation. For smaller sessions, thirty minutes is genuinely enough when the timing is right and the group is relaxed. A focused gallery beats a hundred-photo gallery of restless children every time.
What You Receive
Every session delivers a private online gallery in three days, edited for color, light, and expression. We don't include frames where eyes are closed or a child is mid-tantrum — unless the tantrum is the photo. Download rights are included. On premium family packages, the Reel is edited with audio and runs sixty seconds to two minutes. Most families watch it more than the still gallery.
We work across the Riviera Maya — Cancún, Playa del Carmen, Tulum, cenotes, resort grounds, and everything between. If you're not sure which package fits your group size and timing, message us on WhatsApp and we'll recommend the right fit in one reply.

The First Ten Minutes
Are Always the Worst
Almost without exception. One person is more nervous than the other. The camera is present in a way it won't be fifteen minutes in. Everyone moves a little stiffly. The way through this isn't more instruction — it's something to do. We give couples a task: walk toward the water, say something that would make her laugh at home, pull him close without looking at us. The task matters less than the doing. By minute twelve, the body forgets there's a camera. That's when the session starts.
This is the core of how we work with couples: movement and response, not instruction and pose. We follow, we anticipate, we don't freeze anyone in place. The best images from a couple session are almost always taken between the setups — mid-conversation, mid-movement, mid-something unplanned.
Who Books a Couple Session
Most of the couples we photograph aren't engaged. They're on vacation in Cancún or Playa del Carmen, they have one morning with good light and no particular agenda, and they want something beyond iPhone photos at the pool bar. That's a legitimate reason to book. You don't need an occasion.
Anniversary couples are the second-largest group. These sessions are different in one specific way: the couple already knows each other completely, and it shows. There's a shorthand between people who have been together for years — the specific look, the way one reaches for the other mid-sentence — that reads differently on camera than the charged energy of a new engagement. Both produce excellent photographs.
Proposals are a third category, and one we prepare for differently. If we're documenting a proposal — not photographing after the fact — the logistics need to be airtight: location, timing, positioning, signal. We've coordinated them at Tulum ruins at sunrise, on the beach at Puerto Morelos with the lighthouse behind them, on the crossing to Cozumel before the cruise crowds land. Each takes one planning call. None have gone wrong.
Posing and Not Posing
When someone poses, you know. Not because they're doing it wrong — but because the body has muscle memory of how it's supposed to look in a photograph, and that memory produces images that look exactly like photographs of someone posing. We use direction, not posing: walk this way, look at each other, don't look at us. The camera is beside you, not in front of you.
The outcome is a gallery that looks like the two of you — not a catalog shoot, not a highlight reel of your most performative moments. If you're looking for fashion-editorial setups with specific looks and lighting plans, that's a different photography style. What we do is closer to documentary: we're there for what actually happens.
Light and Location
Couple sessions work best at sunrise or in the last ninety minutes before sunset. The Caribbean light in those windows is warm, directional, and forgiving — it does most of the work without requiring anything specific from either of you. We recommend a location based on your hotel and the time you have: Cancún for hotel-zone clients who want the classic Caribbean shot, Playa del Carmen for the combination of beach and 5th Avenue, Tulum for something more cinematic and less crowded. Each location page details the specific conditions, access, and best windows for that area.
