Photographing in Cancún
Cancún's east-facing coast makes sunrise a strong option, especially for families with children under six. Older children and larger groups can also work well in late afternoon. We set the exact light window from your date and location instead of using a fixed clock time, then confirm it with you before the session.
A beach being public doesn't settle everything else. The resort behind it still sets its own rules — for its land, its guests and the outside vendors it lets work there — and those rules vary by property and change over time. Pool decks, lobbies and private gardens need the property's approval, and some resorts want far more notice than guests expect, so we start that conversation early. Before you book, we confirm the current policy and how you'll actually reach the sand; if the resort route doesn't work, we plan the session from a nearby public access point instead.
For couples and families, Playa Delfines is one public-access option we use in Cancún. The CANCÚN sign can draw a queue, so we often work farther along the same beach when the session calls for open dunes and a wider shoreline. Downtown (Centro) is a different look entirely — Parque de las Palapas, Mercado 28, and the muraled streets around Avenida Yaxchilán can support an urban session when you want a break from the postcard Caribbean aesthetic.

Planning Your Cancun Session
Resort fee. Some resorts charge an outside-photographer fee set by the property. Any such third-party fee is paid directly to the property, never through Roots, and we confirm the current policy with you before you book.
Where we shoot. If on-property photography is restricted, a public-beach option may be workable. We confirm the current practical access, meeting point, and any property requirements before you book.
Getting there. Prices are per session. Our standard travel is included within the destinations we list as covered. Location-specific third-party costs — such as ferries, required local transfers, access or entry fees, and permits — are separate and confirmed before booking. Travel outside our published coverage is quoted before booking.
Weather. If it rains we reschedule free to the next open slot in your trip; light overcast we keep.
Delivery & booking. Your edited gallery arrives in 3–5 days depending on package, with a sneak peek inside 24 hours. A deposit holds the date and moves with you if you reschedule, once and free, on 48 hours' notice. Our Terms list the few cases where it is refunded.
Meeting point. We confirm the exact meeting point when you book — usually your hotel or the nearest beach access. More in our FAQ.
Booking a Cancun Session
Usually, with one distinction worth knowing: the beach and the resort behind it are separate things. We mostly work on the sand and along the beach either side of your hotel, but each resort sets its own rules for its land, its guests and outside vendors, and those rules change. Pool decks, lobbies and gardens need the property's approval, and some resorts ask for much more notice than you'd expect — so we check the current policy with you before booking. We bring a one-page session brief you can hand to the concierge if it helps.
Playa Delfines is one of the best public-access beaches in Cancún for photography — the iconic CANCÚN sign is here, the cliff above gives a panoramic backdrop, and it's far enough south of the main hotel cluster that crowds are lighter at sunrise. For a couple or family session, we usually shoot the dunes and water's edge at the south end of the beach rather than the sign itself, which tends to attract a queue.
Both can work. For families with children under six, morning is our default because kids are usually fresher and the beach is quieter. Older children, larger groups, and couples can also work well in late afternoon. We set the exact light window from your date and location rather than using one fixed time for every session.
Some all-inclusive resorts charge an outside-vendor fee when a session happens on resort property, while others do not. The amount and access policy are set by the property and can change, so we confirm the current terms with you before you book. Any resort fee is paid directly to the property, never through Roots. If the current terms do not suit your plan, we look for a workable public-beach alternative nearby.
Yes — Centro has Parque de las Palapas, Mercado 28, and the colorful murals near Avenida Yaxchilán that work well for an urban session. It's a different look entirely from the beach: warmer, more local, no Caribbean light. Most travelers don't ask for this, but if you've spent a few days in Centro already and want something less postcard-typical, we can build a 60-minute walk-and-shoot route here.
