Photographing on Cozumel
Cozumel sits off the coast of Playa del Carmen, reached by ferry — crossing times and frequency depend on the operator and season, so we confirm the current schedule when we plan. Most travelers arrive either on a morning ferry from Playa or on a cruise — and cruise days change the town completely. On those days the San Miguel waterfront fills from mid-morning to late afternoon; before and after, the town is quiet.
For a sunrise couple or family session we shoot the malecón (waterfront) and the side streets of San Miguel before the cruise crowd lands. The east side of the island (the windward, undeveloped reef coast) is the strongest single backdrop on Cozumel — wild, rocky, almost no people — but it's a 30-minute drive from town, so we usually save it for sessions of 90 minutes or longer.
Ferry timing shapes the plan. After a sunrise session, a morning crossing back puts you in Playa del Carmen for the rest of the day. For later sessions, we pick a return crossing that avoids the late-afternoon cruise rush at the terminal, based on that day's schedule.

Planning Your Cozumel Session
Resort fee. Some resorts charge an outside-photographer fee set by the property. Any such third-party fee is paid directly to the property, never through Roots, and we confirm the current policy with you before you book.
Where we shoot. If on-property photography is restricted, a public-beach option may be workable. We confirm the current practical access, meeting point, and any property requirements before you book.
Getting there. Prices are per session. Our standard travel is included within the destinations we list as covered. Location-specific third-party costs — such as ferries, required local transfers, access or entry fees, and permits — are separate and confirmed before booking. Travel outside our published coverage is quoted before booking.
Weather. If it rains we reschedule free to the next open slot in your trip; light overcast we keep.
Delivery & booking. Your edited gallery arrives in 3–5 days depending on package, with a sneak peek inside 24 hours. A deposit holds the date and moves with you if you reschedule, once and free, on 48 hours' notice. Our Terms list the few cases where it is refunded.
Meeting point. We confirm the exact meeting point when you book — usually your hotel or the nearest beach access. More in our FAQ.
Booking a Cozumel Session
By ferry from Playa del Carmen; crossing times and frequency depend on the operator and season, so we confirm the current schedule when we book. Our standard travel is included — the only extra is the real cost of the crossing, passed on at what it actually costs, with no ROOTS travel fee on top. Ferry timing shapes the plan: after a sunrise session, a morning crossing back puts you in Playa del Carmen for the rest of the day.
Only in the middle of the day, and we plan around it. On cruise days the San Miguel waterfront fills from mid-morning to late afternoon; before and after, the town is quiet. We shoot the malecón and San Miguel side streets at sunrise, before the cruise crowd lands, or work the east coast away from town entirely.

Playa Chen Río and Playa San Francisco are the two we favor for beach work. They sit on the quieter side of the island away from the cruise piers, so the sand stays calm and open — the trade-off is the drive, which is why we pair them with longer sessions rather than a quick sunrise in town.
