Photographing in Puerto Aventuras
Puerto Aventuras is a gated marina community 20 minutes south of Playa del Carmen, built around a series of canals and a dolphin lagoon. It's quieter and more contained than the surrounding coast — fewer day-tour groups, a controlled-access feel, and a small set of distinctive backdrops: the marina docks, the dolphin sanctuary, the beach inside the gated zone, and a short walkable promenade.
Most clients here are guests at Hard Rock Hotel, Catalonia Royal Tulum, or one of the smaller condo resorts inside the gate. Access for the session is straightforward as long as you're staying inside the community or registered as a visitor at your host's property. The beach inside the gate is calmer than open public stretches — better for small children and for sessions where you don't want surf noise on video.
Sunrise sessions are still the strongest window here. The marina light hits the water for about 30 minutes after the sun clears the horizon — that's the cleanest shooting window before the boat traffic picks up. We bring a session brief to give to the security gate if needed for non-resident visitors.

You won't pose. We direct. Small prompts, small actions — a walk, a glance, a shared joke — and the moment takes care of itself. Most clients forget the camera is there ten minutes in.
Sooner than you'd expect. An edited sneak peek reaches you within 24 hours of the session — a first taste before the rest. The full edited gallery follows in three days, ready to download and share before your tan fades. Need the complete gallery faster? 24-hour express delivery is available for $50.
We reschedule at no charge. Riviera Maya weather shifts fast. Light overcast we usually keep — soft light is a cinematographer's best friend. If rain makes the session impossible, we move to the next available slot during your trip at no cost.
Typically 70–150+ fully edited photos depending on the package. The Roots Cinematic package also includes one scored cinematic Reel, 30–60 seconds.
Yes — and we're specifically good with them. We never ask kids to pose. We play, we observe, and we capture what actually happens. The best family frames usually come from letting children lead.
